What is a Wiki?
You've probably used or heard of Wikipedia - the free online encyclopedia. The concept is simple: all information on the site is added by you, the community of readers. It's a collaborative project. Anyone can edit any page and correct or add data, and we encourage you to contribute in your areas of expertise.
It's easy - just click the "edit" button on the top of any page in the HomeInspectionWiki and add your content. Remember that once you've contributed, anyone can add to or edit your words.
Another way to think of a wiki is a dictionary or an encyclopedia, in this case it is a dictionary of home inspection terms, an encyclopedia of home inspection terms, it will have original articles, and it can be updated or changed at any time.
How do I start a new page?
There are two quick ways to add a new HomeInspectionWiki page:
Just type a word or term into the search box on the left. If the term does not exist, it will take you to a page that has a red underlined link. Simply click on that link and you can start typing!
Just type the new address into your browser, like this: http://www.homeinspectionwiki.com/index.php?title=NEWPAGE and instead of typing NEWPAGE type whatever term you wish to add. Use the underscore ("_") to indicate a space. The HomeInspectionWiki will automatically create the page and let you add text.
Add a link to the new term in another existing page. Click "edit" to edit the article, add the term you want to create (as long as the term fits in the article you are editing) and type in the term with brackets around it. Example: [[new term]]. Then click on the red underlined link and start typing!
How do I upload images?
Click on "Upload file" in the toolbox on the left.
How do I add links?
When editing a page, simply place your cursor where you want the link to be. Click on the "globe" icon right above the text box and overtype the website with the site you would like, then name the site be replacing "link title" with the site name.
What is the "discussion" page?
You can discuss any entry-related topics, or ask questions, by clicking the "discussion" tab at the top of each page. Sign your questions/comments by typing 3 tildes (~). The HomeInspectionWiki will automatically replace it with your username.
